Homepage for Mr. Isaacs

WELCOME students AND parents!

My name is Jesse Isaacs and I have been teaching science at San Lorenzo High for the past 17 years.

I graduated from UCLA in 1998 and hold a Bachelor's of Science in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.

My first job after college was at the John's Hopkins School of Medicine studying the effects of an unusual molecular modification found on many important proteins in pretty much all animal species.

Next I worked at the UCSF Cancer Center at Mount Zion studying how we could use a modified virus to preferentially destroy cancer cells.

Eventually I moved into the biotechnology industry with a company called Avigen working on using the AAV virus as a gene therapy tool.

After that, I enrolled at Mills College to obtain my teaching credential and then I began working at SLzHS WAAAAY back in 2004, I have been here ever since.

I believe that science is much more than a collection of facts, it is a way of looking at things where curiosity and logic work together to build a greater understanding of the world around us. With that as the basis, we explore life in its many forms and "do science" to build a more comprehensive understanding of our world and our selves.

I want ALL of my students to be scientists... not later... now.
