What are some of the values of the Black Panthers? What can you learn from them? in Google Classroom

What are some of the values of the Black Panthers? What can you learn from them?

Visit the Black Panther virtual exhibit from the Oakland Museum. Watch some of the videos and explore the exhibit. Unfortunately, the Resources page has a lot of broken links, but the reading list is still there, if you are interested. I am contacting the Museum to see if they can restore the links.
Consider the values that the Black Panthers declared for themselves. Consider what the Black Panthers did to support their values. Consider how the Black Panthers were portrayed by the press. Remember people are complicated and think about the story from multiple viewpoints.

How many Duolingo gems do you currently have? in Google Classroom

How many Duolingo gems do you currently have?

I wanted you to each spend at least 5-10 minutes on Duolingo daily. So, I challenged you to a Duolingo gem contest. I had 5034. Now, I have 5115. That's only 81. So sad. I was hoping that I was going to win this challenge, but clearly, I have not been keeping up.
How many have you earned since you reported your numbers? How badly did you beat me?

Are you going to go to the field trip on Friday? Answer by Wednesday at noon (12pm).

Hi everyone,
I need to know who wants to attend the virtual field trip to the Contemporary Jewish Museum on Friday. Since this would be with real people leading the trip, it important to be respectful. If you decide you want to go, it is a commitment on your part. If there is interest, I will work through the some technical difficulties I am having. If not, then I'll just cancel.
I need your answer by Wednesday at noon.

Oakland Museum Map Exhibit

I'm sorry we didn't get to go to our field trip to the Oakland Museum. It's an interesting museum because it is focused on California, the Bay Area, Oakland, and the people who live here. Check out this map exhibit and then copy and paste a picture of the map you found most interesting. Add a comment explaining what you learned or found interesting about your choice.

Choose a book to read or listen to. Reading logs are starting again. Type the title of your book here by Monday. in Google Classroom

Choose a book to read or listen to. Reading logs are starting again. Type the title of your book here by Monday.

If you haven't been reading or listening to books, now is the time to start again. There are a lot of resources out there to help you. Please watch the video Ms. Marks made again or go directly to the library page on the SLZHS website to get searching. If you have questions, let me know or email Ms. Marks, the librarian directly. Please choose a book to begin on Monday or sooner. If you are already actively reading a book, of course you may continue with it. Actively reading a book means that you are picking it up at least 3-4 times a week to read.
Ms. Spiers' inspirational book talk:
Boring books are bad books. Reading needs to go quickly or you WILL (I know, I'm not guessing) get bored. Bored is bad. If you have to look up too many words, you WILL get bored. Bored is bad. There are books on every topic. All of the knowledge of humans through known history is contained in book form. Most of the imaginary thinking of humans is contained in a book somewhere. If you can't find a book that is interesting, it is because reading is hard for you. To get better at reading, you have to do a lot of it at an appropriate level. Too hard, not the right topic, or not the right style and a book will be boring. Boring books are bad. Find the RIGHT book and it WILL be interesting. I know, I'm not guessing. Somewhere is a book that you will find interesting.
Ms. Marks and I are here to help you.

With love,
Ms. Spiers

Pro tip:
Amazon is really helpful for finding books you might find interesting. They are however, not free. But you don't need to buy books here to get suggestions, synopsis, reviews, and even a peek inside of many books. You can find them on Amazon and then look for them on the free sites.
Unfortunately, it is hard for the education and library sites to keep up with all the new books and so you might find a book on Amazon just to find it isn't available for free anywhere yet. So, I use it to learn more about the books that are free to use through the sites on the library page.

So enter your number on the attached form and we will start a contest based on how many you add to this number each week. I want you to each spend at least 5-10 minutes on Duolingo daily.
