Goal: To create a work of art dealing with your personal identity. The goal is to express how you view or see yourself, and how you think other people see you. (Note: Identity includes issues such as race, gender, national identity, class, status, personality, looks etc…) For part one, you will create a worksheet using google docs.
Overview: Every year in advanced photography, I have had students pose against a white backdrop in the studio and take a photograph with a medium format film camera. Students then printed out the photograph in the darkroom on 11 inch x 14 inch black and white photo paper. Then they used colored pencils and markers to write words and draw on the photograph to describe how they see themselves on one side, and how they think other people see them on the other side (see the attached example below). Since we can't use the darkroom this year, we are going to do a variation on this idea.

Goal: Create 9 double exposures using Pixlr
Overview: Double exposures are a uniquely photographic art form. They do the impossible, which is to show two different moments in time blended into one image, creating a surreal or abstract juxtaposition.
Directions: You can use images you already have taken, or you can take new photographs for the assignment. Follow these steps to create them using Pixlr
1. Log into your Pixlr account and choose Pixlr E.
2. Click "Open Image" and find and choose your first photograph
3. Now go up to the "Layer" tab and choose "Add image as Layer". Find the second photo and click "choose".
4. Click on Layer 2 in the Layers box and click on the 3 little dots to the left of the layer. When the window pops open, change the "Blend Mode" from "None" to "Overlay"
5. Now that you can see the two images blended together, you can use the move tool to move the top layer around until you find the best placement.
6. Use the crop tool to crop the image how you like.
7. I find that adjust the brightness and contrast really makes double exposures come alive. Adjust the brightness and contrast by going up to the "Adjustment" tab and selecting "Brightness & Contrast". After you adjust the brightness and contrast, click "Apply"
8. Save your double exposure by going up to the "File" tab and choosing "Save". Choose JPG as the "File type" and "High" quality. Then click "Download"
9. Repeat the steps above until you have 9 double exposures you are happy with. Upload them to your Weebly page, or if your Weebly is not working, submit them to Google classroom.
